House Bill to Honor the Late Rep. Henry Hyde
On Tuesday evening, the U.S. House paused for a moment of silence to honor pro-life champion and former U.S. Congressman Henry Hyde, who died last week at age 83. After the evening’s session, members had the opportunity to recognize and remember Hyde’s service with a written or verbal statement.
Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., also introduced HR 843, a bipartisan resolution to celebrate Hyde’s leadership and service to the people of Illinois and the U.S. The resolution not only expresses appreciation for the profound dedication and public service of Hyde, but it also directs that eulogies concerning his life be bound and printed as a House document.
Focus on the Family Founder and Chairman Dr. James Dobson greatly respected Hyde and mourns his death.
“With the passing of Rep. Henry Hyde, the pro-family movement lost one of its most passionate defenders of human life," he said. "It is impossible to calculate how many millions of babies were spared because of his courageous work in the House of Representatives."
