40 Days for Life credited with saving hundreds of babies.

The second annual 40 Days for Life campaign kicks off today as people in 59 cities launch community efforts to draw attention to the issue of abortion.

In cities coast-to-coast, participants will set aside time to fast and pray for the end of abortion. The successful effort last fall brought calls for another campaign.

We heard over and over again that they wanted to do it during the celebration leading up to the resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ," said David Bereit, campaign director.

We know of at least 340 children whose lives were spared from abortion and many people who said it reawakened the pro-life movement and generated new hope for people in their local communities.

Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, said the campaign has put Planned Parenthood on notice. In the fall, it sent out e-mails warning clinics about the vigils.

On the one hand, its strange that Planned Parenthood would feel threatened or feel that they need to warn people about Christians who are simply praying and counseling at abortion clinics," she said. "On the other hand, its kind of a backhanded compliment to the power of prayer.
