Life Advocates Stand Up to Planned Parenthood

'The major pro-life groups around the country are coming together to implement a unified national action.'

In 2006, Planned Parenthood performed nearly 300,000 abortions in the U.S. and took in $1 billion in revenue.

The nation's largest abortion business can thank U.S. taxpayers, who pitched in a little more than $330 million.

Life advocates are taking notice, and are again calling for the government to stop supporting abortion.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachman, R.-Minn., told a crowd at the Values Voter Summit this month that any business that has a $115 million surplus does not deserve government funding.

“They are a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, which means they pay no taxes,” she said. Yet "they receive over $300 million per year in grants from the federal government."

In Chicago, the Pro-Life Action League is spearheading the National Coalition to Defeat Planned Parenthood. More than 50 pro-life leaders kicked off the effort last week.

"In the past, there have been may local and statewide efforts to thwart Planned Parenthood, but what makes the National Coalition to Defeat Planned Parenthood special is that for the first time, the major pro-life groups around the country are coming together to implement a unified national action," said Eric Scheidler, communications director for the Action League.

The coalition will work to mobilize pro-life supporters at the grassroots level and plans to hold regular meetings.

The ultimate goal? Eliminate Planned Parenthood's government funding at the local, state and federal levels.
