Legislature
overrides another abortion veto
The Oklahoma Legislature has overridden the governor's veto of an
abortion bill that would require women and doctors to complete
questionnaires before the procedure could be done.
It is the third time this session the Republican-controlled House and
Senate have overridden Democratic Gov. Brad Henry's veto of an
abortion-related measure.
In the Senate, a handful of pro-life Democrats joined with Republicans
on Tuesday to reach the votes needed for the override. The House easily
voted for the override on Monday.
Another bill that the legislature passed over the governor's veto would
require women to undergo an ultrasound and listen to a detailed
description of the fetus before receiving an abortion. It is on hold
because of a legal challenge.
